The company has awarded a contract to General Electric (GE) for the supply of 43×1.7MW wind turbines for the project, construction of which will create around 300 jobs.

Once operational by late 2014, the project is likely to create enough renewable electricity to power around 30,000 Nebraska homes. It will supply the entire output to the Nebraska Public Power District under a 25-year contract.

Sempra vice president of renewables Kevin Sagara said that the company has acquired and will develop and operate Broken Bow 2 in Nebraska.

"Our company continues to invest in the development, construction and operation of renewable energy infrastructure. We look forward to providing a stable supply of clean power to the region and becoming a long-term partner with the local community," added Sagara.

When the acquired plant becomes operational, Sempra’s joint-venture projects total more than 1,000MW of wind generating capacity.
