The Termoelectrica de Mexicali, with 625MW of power generation capacity, is a combined-cycle facility that commenced its service in 2003. The plant is situated approximately 115 miles (185 kilometers) east of San Diego, near Mexicali in Baja California, it mainly serves the US power market.

One MW of power supplied from the plant powers approximately 700 homes in California.

Sempra, of San Diego, owns and operates around 3,000MW of generating capacity. It also markets energy and other commodities around the world. Sempra distributes and transmits natural gas to around 6.4 million customers and power to around 1.4 million customers in California.
