Scheduled to be opened on 26 September 2012, the new production facility will produce what Semprius claims to the world’s highest efficiency solar modules.
The modules are claimed to be the first to possess conversion capacity of more than one-third of the sun’s energy into electricity, with record breaking 33.9% conversion efficiency.
Semprius CEO Joe Carr said the new unit launch is a major milestone for the company, which it expects to provide considerable direction to the renewable energy in future.
"With production ramped up, we will be able to effectively service our customers, including companies like Siemens and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne," Carr said.
The facility, for which Semprius raised about $40m funds from equity investors, will create around 250 jobs in the next few years.
Semprius has developed its proprietary micro-transfer printing technology with the support of US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
