Over the next few years, the facility is expected to generate over 250 jobs in the region.
The modules are manufactured using Semprius’ proprietary micro-transfer printing process. These modules allow the conversion of over one-third of the sun’s energy into electricity at 33.9% conversion efficiency.
Semprius CEO Joe Carr said that the opening is significant to the renewable energy industry.
"With production ramped up, we will be able to effectively service our customers, including companies like Siemens and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne," Carr said.
North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue said, "The opening of Semprius’ solar manufacturing plant in Henderson further strengthens North Carolina’s leadership in clean technology and sustainability."
