Shaw will develop the conceptual design of the balance of plant and support systems to advance the HI-SMUR toward eventual commercial application.
The company will also prepare an overall design basis, support licensing activities and evaluate plant layouts and optimization of plant output.
Shaw also provides design services for facilities using Holtec’s spent fuel casks at nuclear operating plants in the US.
When completed, these independent spent fuel storage facilities allow nuclear plant operators to continue operations by storing spent fuel onsite in air-cooled casks and not in fuel pools.
