Shaw Group has received a contract from the US Navy to provide radiological contaminant remediation services at various locations within the US Naval Facilities Engineering Command’s Southwest and Atlantic areas of responsibility. .

Under this five-year contract, the firm will offer radiological investigations, surveys and remediation work in support of environmental programmes, including Base Realignment and Closure for the Navy.

This radiological work supports environmental investigations that focus on possible radioactive contamination, remedial and/or removal actions, remedial design, pilot and treatability studies and other related activities associated with achieving appropriate decontamination and decommissioning status.

George Bevan, president of Shaw’s Environmental & Infrastructure Group, opined that the firm has given environmental remediation services “to Department of Defense installations around the world, as well as other government and commercial properties, laboratories, nuclear facilities and nuclear weapons facilities”.

Shaw is one of five firms selected to compete on task orders under this contract with a maximum total value of $250 million. Approximately $37m was included in Shaw’s Environmental & Infrastructure segment’s second quarter fiscal year 2010 backlog of unfilled orders.
