While the Shell MasterCard has all the advantages of a MasterCard and can be used at more than 23 million global outlets, as well as cash machines, the companies commented that the card also offers rebates on fuel and other purchases. The rebates will be doubled for a 60-day introductory period, which, at present fuel prices, will be between 40 and 60 ore per liter, plus the rebates collected from everyday purchases.

Citibank commented that that the new MasterCard would allow Denmark’s more than two million private drivers to make their household budgets go further. According to the bank, all rebates earned will be credited towards Shell and Metax fuel purchases the following month.

Shell MasterCard from Citi is the first card to bring rebates from fuel and other purchases together. In other words, we are uniting the advantages of the credit card and the fuel card into one card and thus targeting a niche in the market where we hope to appeal to a lot of consumers, said Jesper Gotfredsen, general manager at Citibank.

Jes Koesgaard, product manager at Shell, added: The car is an important means of transportation for many Danes, and in many cases fuel comprises a large part of the monthly budgets. Therefore we are launching Shell MasterCard from Citi to help our customers get more out of their household budgets.

With the launch of Shell MasterCard from Citi, Citibank has become Shell’s exclusive consumer credit card partner in Denmark.
