The contract covers the supply, delivery and commissioning of ten direct drive SWT-2.3-113 wind turbines for the project near Morse.

Construction on the wind project is slated to commence in summer 2014. The clean electricity generated at the project will be enough to power 8,000 households in the region.

Siemens’ contract scope also includes a ten-year service and maintenance agreement.

The direct drive wind turbines feature only half of the parts required for a conventional geared wind turbine and a significantly smaller number of moving parts, which increase the efficiency due to minimum losses in drive train and generator, the company claims.

Canada currently has more than 7,800MW of wind generation capacity.
