Scheduled to be commissioned in 2018, the Lausward plant is being built at the Düsseldorf port on the existing Stadtwerke Düsseldorf power plant site, and is expected to have an efficiency level of over 61%. It will supply up to 300MW to the district heating system in Düsseldorf.

Siemens power and gas division project management business unit head Lothar Balling said: "Construction of the plant is progressing right on schedule, thanks to the excellent collaboration with the Düsseldorf municipal utilities and to our experience in the erection of turn-key power plants."

The facility features a SGT5-8000H gas turbine, a SST5-5000 steam turbine, a SGen5-3000W generator and a Benson heat recovery steam generator and the SPPA-T3000 I&C system along with other auxiliary systems.

Statoil will supply natural gas to the Lausward CCPP under a 15-year agreement with Stadtwerke Düsseldorf.

Stadtwerke Düsseldorf chairman of the managing board Udo Brockmeier earlier said: "The Siemens H-class technology is particularly interesting for us as it associated with very high efficiency and a high level of operational flexibility.

"With the fuel utilization factor of around 85% it will make a substantial contribution to achieving Germany’s climate protection targets."
