The wind farm consists of 48 wind turbines with each turbine having a capacity of 3MW and will be installed in the water between 500 and 1,100m from the dikes of the Noordoostpolder.

Siemens Energy stated that the project is also the first wind power plant Siemens Wind Power’s Offshore unit will install for handover to the customer on a turnkey basis. Within the framework of a 15-year comprehensive maintenance contract, the owner will benefit from Siemens’ guaranteed availability.

Preparation works on site will start in summer 2014, followed by offshore installation in 2015. The first turbines are expected to start delivering power to the existing grid at the end of 2015 or early 2016. They will supply sustainable energy for some 160,000 homes.

Siemens Energy stated that the project will significantly contribute to the Netherlands reaching their climate-protection targets of generating 14% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020.

The project is expected to create approximately 150 additional jobs in the region during the erection phase. During the 15-year service period, about 30 technicians and other specialists are also expected to be employed to operate the wind park.
