The company is part of a consortium that consists of local infrastructure company Kalyon Enerji and the Turkish investor Turkerler. The consortium was awarded capacity in the country’s first wind auction held last August.
As per the terms of the agreement, Siemens Gamesa’s scope includes the supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines at several wind farms, along with a 15 year service agreement.
The agreement also has a scope for the offtake of the power generated at the wind farms under a 15 year power purchase agreement (PPA).
It also includes a commitment on the part of the consortium to develop at least 700MW by 2022.
In order to meet the local supply requirements established by the Turkish authorities, the agreement includes the construction of a nacelle factory and an R&D centre.
Siemens Gamesa entered the Turkish market in 2010 and since then it has supplied and installed up to 700MW of its turbines in the country.
Recently, Siemens Gamesa was selected by Danish energy giant Ørsted to supply turbines for its 1.38GW Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm, which will be located off the coast of the UK.
For this offshore wind project, Siemens Gamesa is expected to supply its 8.0-167 turbines, with a nominal production capacity of 8MW. Nacelles for the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm are expected to be manufactured at Siemens Gamesa’s Hull factory in the UK.
