An agreement to this effect was signed between Siemens and the US energy company Minnesota Power.

As per the agreed terms, Siemens will provide service and maintenance for 149 D3-platform wind turbines installed in the first three phases of the Bison Wind Energy Center.

The wind turbines include 85 SWT-3.0-101 direct drive turbines at Bison Phase 1B, Bison 2 and Bison 3, as well as 64 SWT-3.2-113 units at the project’s last phase, Bison 4.

The 3MW D3-platform turbines at Bison 4 come with a 113m rotor and 92.5m hub height.

Siemens wind service and renewables business CEO Mark Albenze said: "Siemens and Minnesota Power have a long history of working together and this is a continuation of our ongoing collaboration.

With commissioning of Bison 4 in January, Bison complex’s total capacity increased to nearly 500MW, making it the largest wind energy project in North Dakota.

Currently, Siemens provides service and maintenance for over 3,700 installed wind turbines in the Americas region and more than 9,000 globally, with a combined generating capacity of approximately 22GW.

In March this year, the company secured service extension for Rhyl Flats offshore wind farm in UK.

The Rhyl Flats wind farm is located on the eastern end of the Constable Bank between Abergele and Rhos-on-Sea, about 8km off the coast of North Wales.
