CAPCO is a joint venture between China Southern Power Grid International and CLP Power Hong Kong (CLP Power).

Under the contract, Siemens will deliver and commission the power block, with a single-shaft configuration.

The power block's core comprises a SGT5-8000H gas turbine, an SST5-5000 steam turbine, a water-cooled SGen5-3000W generator as well as the SPPA-T3000 control system.

The combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant, which is expected to generate electricity required to power approximately a million households, is scheduled to be commissioned before 2020.

Siemens said that the contract marks its first order for SGT5-8000H power plant component from Hong Kong in 20 years.

Siemens Greater China CEO Lothar Herrmann said: “With our high-efficiency power plant technology and our broad experience in constructing large-scale plants, we will make contribution to a sustainable energy future in Hong Kong joining hands with our customer.

“As one of CAPCO's reliable partners, we will work closely with the customer in all project phases including commissioning to support our customer's ambitious objectives."

Siemens said that the combined cycle power plants featuring SGT-8000H turbine will have more than 60% of efficiency level.

CLP plans to build one additional generation unit at the Black Point Power Station to help meet government’s effort to boost local gas generation to around 50% of the total fuel mix by the end of the decade.
