The natural gas-fuelled power station is planned to be developed near Shamokin Dam in Snyder County at the site which previously housed the 400MW Sunbury coal-fired power plant.
Panda Power Funds and Sunbury Generation had entered into a joint venture in February this year to develop, finance, construct and operate the combined-cycle power project.
Expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2018, the Hummel Station will have the capacity to meet the energy requirements of over one million households in large power markets in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Philadelphia and New York City.
Siemens Financial Services (SFS) has also agreed for an equity investment for $125m for the PPF project, which is the seventh in the country and third in the state for Siemens.
Under the terms of the power island delivery deal, the German firm will provide three SGT6-5000F gas turbines, one SST6-5000 steam turbine, three SGen6-1000A air cooled generators as part of the gas turbine package, one hydrogen cooled SGen6-2000H generator as part of the steam turbine package, three NEM DrumPlus HRSGs and the SPPA-T3000 control system for the project.
Panda Power Funds has also selected Bechtel as a part of the construction consortium along with Siemens Energy.
Under the terms of the deal, Bechtel will be responsible for the engineering and procurement for the balance of the facility along with its installation, construction and commissioning.
Construction works for the project is expected to continue for 30 months.
