The company secured a long-term contract to continue providing service and maintenance for an additional 13 years at the Korat 1 and Korat 2 wind projects.

Siemens will install the Power Curve Upgrade, part of its Digital Services for Energy portfolio, to all 90 SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines.

The two plants, owned by subsidiaries of Thailand renewable energy firm Wind Energy Holding, entered service in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

The upgrades will increase electricity generation from the turbines by combining several features attached to the turbine’s blade and adjustments in the turbine’s controller software.

According to Siemens, these upgrades can increase power output between 2 to 5%.

Siemens Power Generation Services, Wind Power and Renewables business unit CEO Mark Albenze said: "This is an important milestone for Siemens and for Thailand's renewable energy sector as they work toward enhancing their energy independence.

As Thailand’s demand for energy is increasing at a faster pace, the emphasis is now more on renewable sources. The country plans to have as much as 25% of energy being produced by the year 2021, from 12 % in 2014.
