Coal-fired power plants are constantly being constructed and expanded in India as the demand for energy is increasing in the country.
Siemens said the Flender gear units from are deployed in vertical mills with an output of 800 kW and 1000 kW, which are used for coal grinding in the power plants.
The Flender gear units will feature a bevel gear stage and a planetary stage that can be used in a harsh environment.
Siemens Industry Sector mechanical drives segment head Bernhard Hoffmann said, "We see this major order as a convincing vote of confidence from BHEL in the reliability of the Flender gear units and the commitment and cooperation of our employees."
BHEL has already collaborated with Siemens in the past and purchased 60 gear units for vertical mills in 2013.
