Under the contract, Siemens will supply two SGT6-8000H gas turbines, one SST6-5000 steam turbine, three SGen-1000A generators as well as the SPPA-T3000 control system for the turbines.

The company will also be responsible for the supply of auxiliary equipment, materials, spare parts and special tools, as well as TFA onsite engineering support.

The natural-gas-fired power plant is being developed in the municipality of Acolman by a consortium comprising Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, Initec Energía, and Avanzia Instalaciones.

The power plant is being built by the three companies on an engineering procurement construction (EPC) basis for the state-owned electric utility of Mexico, Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

Planned to be commissioned in December 2017, the power plant is designed to meet the power demand in the country.

According to CFE’s growth forecast, the energy demand is estimated to increase at an average of 4% annually in the central region of Mexico.

In May, Sener-led consortium awarded a contract to Siemens to deliver two SGT6-8000H gas turbines and two SGen-2000H generators for the 770MW Empalme I combined cycle power plant (CCPP) in Sonora, Mexico.

Siemens Latin America Power and Gas Division vice-president José Aparicio said: "This second order of Siemens’ high efficiency H-class power plant technology demonstrates CFE’s commitment to generate affordable, reliable and sustainable power.

"We are glad to be chosen again as a partner for innovation and for meeting Mexico’s energy goals."

Siemens plans to manufacture the gas turbines, generators and the steam turbine at its gas turbine manufacturing plant in North Carolina, US.
