OKG operates three boiling water reactors, which meet approximately 10% of Sweden’s power demand. Unit 2 of the Oskarshamn power plant has an installed capacity of 610 megawatts (MW). Thanks to the implementation of advanced, three-dimensional blading technology the new machines will make better use of the energy contained in the steam than the old turbines. The upgrades, which are slated for completion in 2009, will increase installed capacity by more than 30 MW.

The upgrades will ensure high plant operating reliability and low power generation costs over the long term. “The main reason why we placed the order with Siemens was because it offered the best technical solution, which fully convinced us,” said Anders Helmersson, project manager at OKG.
