As per the agreement, Silver Spring will provide smart infrastructure technology, planning and services for Masers’ Smart Grid City Melaka and Special Economic Zone Melaka projects, which are expected to commence by the end of 2013.

The initial stage of an expected multi-phase project will deploy Silver Spring’s IPv6 networking platform for advanced metering, distribution automation, and smart grid consumer empowerment initiatives.

IPv6-based network establishes communications foundation for a city’s assets regardless of distribution topology.

Masers Energy Smart Grid City and Green Special Economic Zone projects are an innovative public-private plan that aims to convert the agricultural region and small-industry zone into the first Smart Grid City in Asia.

The Smart City is planned to bring the economic and societal benefits of smart infrastructure to Malaysia and create a "Green Corridor" in the region.

Masers Energy CEO Dato’ Seri Suhaimi Abd Rahman said the company has partnered with Silver Spring Networks to deliver innovative Smart City services in Malaysia and increase economic growth.

"Silver Spring represents the global gold standard in smart infrastructure and their participation reflects the high standards and expectations we have for this project," Rahman added.
