The two projects will have combined installed capacity of 173MW and, including an agreement to also build a transmission link, the total investment is valued at US$559M.

Three quarters of the total budget will be invested in the two hydro power projects – Nam Kham 2 (126.2MW) and Nam Kham 3 (47MW).

Nam Kham 2 will be located 30km southeast of Luang Prabang, on the Nam Kham river. The plant is designed to generate more than 550GWh of electricity per year.

Nam Kham 3 is to be built on the same river but 70km east of Luang Prabang. It is expected to generate just over 220GWh annually.

The cost of the 164km long, 230kV transmission lone project is US$129M.
