The newly installed solar system is supplying enough energy to meet the school’s Center for the Arts (CFTA) building needs of electricity.

Sky Power Solar president Bob Winn said the company applaud the efforts of The Athenian School in demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.

"They really understand the long-term economics and are setting an example of how to conduct business using minimal resources for their students and the community," Winn said.

In 2009, Athenian school had installed a 21kw solar system and together the two systems are displacing around 70% of the school’s electrical needs.

Athenian School Finance and Business Operations director Bob Oxenburgh said the school continues to explore ways to lower our energy cost and to extend its efforts in sustainable education.

"Sky Power Solar has proven to be an excellent partner, delivering a quality product and responsive customer support," Oxenburgh added.

The school has almost 60% of the waste recycled and is estimated to have saved two million gallons of water annually since installing an all-weather sports field with a recycled infill center.
