The NYSSGC intends to modernize New York’s electrical grid, reducing long-term energy costs and working towards a cleaner energy system.
NYSSGC executive director James Gallagher said: "Solar power and distributed generation are fundamentally changing the way the grid operates, and given its leadership nationally and in New York, SolarCity epitomizes the type of new members that we are trying to attract to the Consortium."
NYSSGC said that the consortium provides businesses with platform, tools and resources to identify opportunities for broader smart grid technology deployment.
SolarCity is focused on solar installation for homeowners, businesses, schools, non-profits and government organizations through its operations centers in Albany, Long Island, New Windsor and Westchester in New York, and more than 65 operations centers across the US.
Currently, the company is developing a solar panel manufacturing facility in Buffalo, New York.
