Solid Energy is planning to cut coal production to 1 million tonnes from 1.4 million as reportedly the mine has been losing $2m a month.

Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) West Coast organiser Garth Elliott told NBR that the company has shed nearly 900 jobs have since 2011.

Solid Energy is yet to make a final decision, which is expected to be announced on 26th May, and the restructuring process is expected to be completed by mid-June.

However, the company is asking the government to help save the 100 jobs that are about to be cut.
