“In this regard, the Ministry of mines has established a taskforce to look into possibility of setting up a hydro project for Tina river on Guadalcanal.

“Likewise, plans are also underway for find a good rive source in the Kwara’ae region to set up another hydro project for the Auki township, its surrounding communities and the proposed Bina harbour development.

“When these are up and running, they should decrease our dependence on fuel imports especially in the area of fuel consumption for the power supply such as the Solomon Islands Electricity Authority(SIEA),” Derek Sikua said.
