The contract is for a total volume of approximately 500GWh – it will come into effect in July 2006 and is renewable in 2008 and 2009.
The Spanish firm says its contract with Opel is the first of this kind in Germany. This innovative service will enable customers to optimize power purchasing management and minimize costs, Endesa claims.
The contract with Opel comes on top of Endesa’s existing agreement in Spain to supply 120GWh to the Figueruelas plant in Zaragoza. It also consolidates Endesa’s position as one of the main suppliers to the European automotive sector.
Endesa’s commercial base in Germany is located in Frankfurt and in the first few months of the year the company held intense negotiations that resulted in contracts for a further 380GWh with major German industrial groups. Endesa’s portfolio of large customers in Germany includes blue-chip companies such as Praxair, Nestle and Saint-Gobain.
