The South Coast Street Lighting PFI, a street lighting PFI project in the UK, includes lighting services for Hampshire County Council, Southampton City Council and West Sussex County Council.

SSE’s subsidiaries, Southern Electric Contracting (SEC), under the contract, would replace and maintain 250,000 streetlights, illuminated signs and bollards. The contract is expected to be concluded later this year.

The contract would take the number of local authorities with which SSE has long-term street lighting replacement and maintenance PFI contracts to 10 and the number of lighting units covered by such contracts to approximately 500,000.

Colin Hood, chief operating officer of SSE, said: “The PFI approach has proved to be a successful way of replacing older street lighting infrastructure and is delivering better lit streets that helps communities lead safer and more secure lives.”
