The proposed plant will have a generating capacity of approximately 430MW, with an efficiency of nearly 60%.
The facility is expected to begin operation in 2013 and generate enough energy to power up to 500,000 households.
The company has been operating a combined-cycle power plant with a total capacity of 800MW in Knapsack since 2007.
Statkraft said it views the new facility as a contribution to the successful change in energy policy and advocates bolstering the competition in the German electricity market.
