Once operational, the £90m Brigg renewable energy plant, which has received planning permission in October 2011, will generate enough electricity to power around 70,000 households and curb around 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
The plant will source straw feedstock (fuel) within a 50 mile radius that would generate an additional £6m in income for the local agricultural community and create 50 new jobs. Additionally, it will create 30 skilled jobs for operating the plant.
The Briggs plant is one of the significant developments in the UK biomass sector since Sleaford renewable energy plant, the company claims.
Statkraft executive vice president, head of market operations and IT Asbjorn Grundt said, the latest agreement represents the company’s commitment to work with developers to deliver project after project, strengthening relationships with customers.
