The well is located in the production license 386 (PL 386) on Lovund prospect in the North Sea.
Statoil has 100% ownership in the well and it is also the operator. The company will spud the well as the first exploration well in PL386.
The production licence, which was awarded in APA 2005, includes parts of the blocks 6609/12, 6610/7 and 6610/10.
The well will be drilled from the West Alpha drilling facility.
Statoil would only be able to begin drilling the well after securing the clearance of permits and consents from the relevant authorities.
