The 4.3 million ton per year Hammerfest LNG plant processes gas from the natural gas field Snohvit located in Norwegian Sea.

Statoil operated LNG plant was without power for 20 minutes just before 14:30 pm on 19 November 2012, until it received electricity from the grid.

The company is carrying out work to normalize activity and will start the production at the facility until it investigates the plant thoroughly for any damage or malfunction.

Snohvit is the first petroleum development in the Barents Sea and large volumes of natural gas is transported through a 143km pipeline from the field to shore and is cooled at Hammerfest LNG.

Statoil with 36.79% interest in the Snohvit field is the operator, whereas Petoro holds 30%, Total E&P owns 18.40%, GDF SUEZ E&P has 12%, and RWE Dea with 2.81% share are the other companies with interest in the field.
