Norwegian oil and gas company StatoilHydro has announced that the Alve gas and condensate field in the Norwegian Sea has started production. Alve has been developed as a subsea satellite field tied back to the Norne field’s production vessel.

According to the company, Alve was discovered in 1990 and lies in production license 159B, about 16km southwest of Norne.

It said that Alve has been developed as a conventional subsea service. Gas will be exported through the pipeline systems established at Norne. Tie-in to existing infrastructure on the Norwegian continental shelf meant that a simplified plan for development and operation (PDO) could be submitted to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

Anita Stenhaug, vice president for Norne operations at StatoilHydro, said: “Its proximity to Norne made it possible to develop Alve as a satellite field, which resulted in substantial value creation and good utilization of resources.

“Output from Alve and other finds in the area will extend Norne’s lifetime from 2016 to 2021. This will provide more spin-offs for land-based activities in the north of Norway.”

StatoilHydro is an integrated technology-based international energy company primarily focused on upstream oil and gas operations. Headquartered in Norway, the company claims to have more than 30 years of experience from the Norwegian continental shelf. It aims to deliver long-term growth and continue to develop technologies and manage projects that will meet the energy and climate challenges in a sustainable way.
