The storm, which had a speed range between 160km and 190 km an hour, brought down the overhead transmission lines that are owned by state nuclear company KazAtomProm.

Kyzymshek and Taukent villages besides several of KazAtomProm’s operations such as the Katco joint venture, Taukent Mining Chemical Enterprise, the Appak joint venture and the Ortalyk mining business have been left without electricity.

The villages of Kyzymshek and Taukent have seen significant damage to infrastructure and buildings.

KazAtomProm, along with residents, is now working to clear debris and restore services with the use of mobile diesel generators and other equipment from mining operations, reported World Nuclear News.

The company was quoted as saying that it will take nearly six weeks to reinstate one vital power line.
