Archer is already using Streicher’s VDD 400.1 to operate an offshore rig off the coast of New Zealand, which allows construction of an offshore drilling rig that can be easily transported, erected and dismantled.

The whole rig consists of modules not exceeding 12 tonnes, and helps in cost effective and quick erection and dismantling of the rig, using the respective drilling platform’s own crane.

The VDD 400.2, which is based on the same working principle that of VDD 400.1, has been developed and accepted in accordance with the Norwegian safety standards NORSOK.

During the drilling, the pipe handler will operate automatically, while the insertion and extraction of drilling rods, pipes and other drilling equipment will be carried out at the touch of a button.

The pipe handling crane of the VDD 400.2 will have almost double the capacity of VDD 400.1 besides having a radius of 21 metres, reported yourindustrynews.
