On 15 December 2012, junior workers of the company went on an indefinite sit-down strike demanding better working conditions that turned violent leading to the death of two workers, reported The Washington Post.

Reacting to the strike, Octea diamond mining company spokesman Ibrahim Kamara stated that the company is increasing the year-end salary bonus for workers from 20% to 30%.

Protestors had reportedly issued a 15-point demand including a three-month bonus as promised by the company.

The strike turned violent when the protestors tried to resist some employees from working at that time.
