Commenting on the development, Suez environnement managing director of Eau France Philippe Maillard said: "We are delighted that Nantaise des Eaux Services is joining Suez environnement. This operation confirms our partner position for local authorities, business and industry for the delivery of services, solutions and innovative technologies for sustainable water resource management."

Nantaise des Eaux Services, which was established in 2001, produces and distributes drinking water apart from the collection and treatment of wastewater. The company supplies drinking water to 123,000 users and provides wastewater treatment services for 116,000. Employing 310 people, it posted revenues of €38.1m in 2014.

Suez said the acquired company’s operations have increased strongly, with an 82% increase in revenue in five years since 2009.

Earlier this year, Suez environnement opened a monitoring centre in Le Pecq, Yvelines, northern France, to provide local authorities with improved water services.

Suez environnement, which employs 80,990 people, supplies drinking water to 92 million people, delivers wastewater treatment services to 65 million. It collects waste produced by about 50 million, reuses 14 million tons of waste each year and generates 5,138 GWh of local and renewable energy.
