Under the first contract, the company will design and build a wastewater treatment plant in Osijek.

The plant, which is expected to start operations in 2018, will treat 40,000 m3/day of wastewater. It will feature an anaerobic digester and a system to dehydrate sludge for reuse as energy.

The European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will co-fund the plant, which will treat carbon pollution, nitrates and phosphate.

Under the second contract, Suez environnement will supervise the construction of a wastewater treatment network and a wastewater treatment plant, as well as the renovation of the water distribution network in the city of Vukovar, Vodovod.

In total, 100km of wastewater network, 25km of water supply network and one wastewater treatment facility will be built with €45m investments. Operations are scheduled to be finished in 2019.

Suez environnement CEO Jean-Louis Chaussade said: "We are very happy to provide our services and our expertise to this country that joined the European Union in 2013, and is faced with modernising its water treatment facilities in the coming 10 years in order to supply quality drinking water to the whole population and to protect the natural environment."

Suez supplies drinking water to 92 million people and provides wastewater treatment services to 65 million.
