The center features a methanation unit, which will allow the company to reuse organic waste from industry, retailers, local authorities and agriculture as new energy resources.
It will transform up to 19,000 tons of waste from the region into new energy resources per year, producing 4,000 MWh of green heat and 4,000 MWh of energy.
The center also transforms 35,000 tons of organic waste into fertilizers and compost that meets the applicable standards.
The energy is used locally to meet 70% of the needs of the near by ISMERT industrial firm.
Suez environnement executive vice-president in charge of recycling and reuse in Europe said: "By reusing the local bio-waste as new organic and energy resources, Suez environnement is confirming its key role in the ecological transition of its customers and its capacity to develop innovative solutions to conserve resources."
ISMERT director Virginie Ismert said: "The energy produced by Suez environnement will enable us to supply our industrial processes with green and local heat that replaces fossil fuel energies.
"This is a step forwards in our company’s energy transition, which was launched some time ago, with the reduction of CO2 emissions."
In 2014, Suez environnement’s recycling and reuse activities in France produced over 2 million MWh of heat and more than 1.5 million MWh of energy.
