Starwood has purchased approximately 5% of its energy load in the form of Green-e certified renewable energy credits (RECs) for its Westin Copley Place hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.

One REC represents the attributes associated with 1MWh of energy from a renewable source. Westin Copley Place Boston has purchased a total of 678 national wind RECs, which ultimately displaces other non-renewable sources from the electric grid.

Michel Sirat, president and CEO of Suez Energy Resources, said: We are pleased to be able to offer our customers more environmentally friendly energy in the form of RECs, and we enjoy seeing current customers like Westin Copley Place Boston take leading roles in adopting environmentally sound energy practices.
