According to Suez Environment, the contract is considered to be the foremost public-private partnership in the water sector in the US. The deal totals E178 million over nine years, and may be renewed by the city for 11 additional years. It will become effective on January 1, 2008.

During the 13 years of partnership, United Water’s initiatives have allowed the city to save almost E170 million, primarily due to the maintenance of a 5,000km network, modernization of infrastructure, and optimized operation of plants that treat 950,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day.

Jean-Louis Chaussade, CEO of Suez Environment, said: We are delighted to continue the outstanding partnership that we have established with Indianapolis. This contract is an excellent example of the continuity and stability that characterize the commitment of Suez Environment to the water and wastewater sector in the US through its subsidiary, United Water.
