The facility, located in Haldimand County, includes 56 wind turbines and is capable of generating enough energy to power around 32,000 homes in Ontario.

The development of wind power plant started in 2006 and it received a renewable energy approval in March 2012.

The 10 months of project made over CAD26m ($25.2m) investment to complete the construction with more than 300 local workers and 55 Ontario businesses support.

NextEra Energy Canada development director Ben Greenhouse said the company is proud to be a part of an initiative that not only contributes to Ontario’s renewable energy supply, but powers the local economy in Haldimand County.

"We would like to thank all of our community partners for their support throughout the development of this project and look forward to continuing to create even greater economic opportunities for Haldimand County during the life of this clean energy project," Greenhouse added.

Haldimand County chief administrative officer Don Boyle said, "The construction of the Summerhaven Wind Energy Centre has created local jobs and added measurably to the local economy."
