The 900-acre power plant will feature over 400,000 SunEdison mono-crystalline photovoltaic (PV) modules.

SunEdison plans to start construction work on the plant in 2015 and complete in early 2016.

The company will provide operations and maintenance services, including monitoring the project through its remote operations center.

The electricity generated from the plant will be sold to Xcel Energy under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Comanche is a TerraForm Power call right project, whereby TerraForm has the option to acquire the project from SunEdison after it starts commercial operation.

SunEdison president of North America Bob Powell said: "Solar energy is now an economical choice for utilities across America.

"SunEdison welcomes the opportunity to work with other project developers across America and together, to show our utility customers how solar energy can serve both the bottom line and their community’s desire for clean energy."

Community Energy president Eric Blank said: "The Comanche Solar project represents a new era for utility scale solar.

"We’re pleased to work with industry leaders like SunEdison and Xcel Energy and look forward to bringing this project online."
