The Greater Sandhill solar plant, which uses SunPower Tracker systems, is expected to generate enough energy to serve the annual electricity needs of nearly 5,000 homes.
Electricity generated by the facility will be sold to Xcel Energy, a US based electricity and natural gas company.
SunPower is also constructing a 30MW solar PV plant, the San Luis Valley Solar Ranch, on 216 acres of former agricultural land in Alamosa County.
Construction of this facility began last year and the project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2011.
