The project will consist of fixed-tilt, ground-mounted systems, on which SunPower will install standard-efficiency solar panels, including SunPower Serengeti panels.

The companies plan to start construction on the plants start this month and expect to complete the project by the end of the year.

The recent project with Solar Ventures adds to SunPower’s project portfolio that consists of than 550MW of solar power systems installed or under contract worlwide, including more than 200MW of operational power plants in Europe.

Michele Appendino, CEO and chairman of Solar Ventures, said: “Solar Ventures built its first PV plant in Piedmont in 2007, where we have experienced excellent community and administration support for solar park development, as well as good irradiance levels.

“We have therefore decided to focus our development efforts in this region, where we have other similar clusters of plants under construction this year. We are happy to work with SunPower, whose technology will deliver clean and renewable solar power for many years to come.”
