SureGrid’s technology is claimed to help utilities balance the electric grid by yielding back unused power during times of peak power demand, as in a heat wave, thereby generating revenue for participating companies in the process.

According to the company, the new software PowerCommand 2.0 will provide utilities with a complete view of their load profile in real time by offering a constant telemetry of their aggregated power-consumption portfolio, so that, if necessary, the utilities can curtail loads with only a 10-minute notification.

The introduction of the new intelligent load management (ILM) software follows the conclusion of a Participating Load Pilot that SureGrid conducted with a California ISO in 2009, where the ISO was provided with telemetry of its aggregated portfolio every 60 seconds, 24/7.

Colin Bester, chief technical officer of SureGrid, said: “Before PowerCommand 2.0, there was a lack of visibility to a Demand Response portfolio’s total combined load in real-time. But now, with our closed-loop, fully automated, ‘no-touch’ Intelligent Load Management (ILM) software, we offer utilities and ISOs the ability to view the load profile in real-time.”
