Located near Swakopmund, the Husab project is the largest in-situ, high grade uranium deposit in Namibia and the third largest uranium only deposit in the world.

The mine contains about 280 million tons of uranium reserves, projected to be extracted over a 20-year life of mine.

Under the contract, the company would secure supply, assembly and commissioning services for six CAT MD6290 rotary blasthole drill rigs, three 6060FS hydraulic face shovels, three 7495 electric rope shovels, two C175 diesel engine motivators and two MD6640 rotary blasthole drills.

Majority of the new machines are expected to be commissioned in 2014, reported allafrica.com.

Husab mine is projected to achieve first production by December 2015 and begin producing uranium from two separate open pits by 2017.

Taurus Minerals, which is a China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding (CGNPC) subsidiary, owns 90% stake in Swakop Uranium and the remaining 10% is under the ownership of Namibian Epangelo Mining Company.
