The well, which is 70% owned by TAG, has been drilled to a total depth of 6,360ft and is being completed as a potential oil well.

Scheduled to commence production testing in near future, the well is anticipated to have intersected over 9m of net oil and gas bearing sands in the Mt. Messenger Formation, the main objective of the well.

If economically viable, the TGA-operated well will be immediately commercialized through TAG’s 100%-owned production infrastructure.

TAG will continue to drill its 100%-owned Cheal-E7 step out well, based on performance and results of the Cheal-E site area.

East West Petroleum holds the remaining 30% working interest in the well licenses in New Zealand.

East West Petroleum president and CEO David Sidoo said: "We are very pleased with the results of the Cheal-E6 well which is the sixth well to date to encounter hydrocarbons on the Cheal North Block.

"East West is looking forward to continued exploration on the Cheal North Block where a further 15 to 20 potential targets have been identified for future drilling."
