Chungath said Tamil Nadu had a good prospective to exploit solar power and the State was making all efforts to boost the renewable energy share. The hope was with solar power and the state had been making notable strides recording the highest share of 32% in renewable energy.

Director, Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation Research, Anna University, A Ramachandran notified the requirement for collaboration with developed nations like the UK to develop technology and devices to make vital growth in generating renewable energy.

Even if the prospective to harness solar power was high, the cost was an excessive factor. So, photovoltaic cells that had a long life with cost effective technology was vital.

Vice-chairman, State Planning Commission, M Naganathan said that the meeting on low carbon was planned to provide a sight of the energy situation in the State to officials from the UK High Commission.

“UK has been showing an interest in supporting a pilot project to help decarbonizes the energy sector here and this is the first meeting,” Naganathan pointed out.
