TAQA has discovered two oil columns during the drilling of the Darwin acreage located south of the former NW Hutton field.
The Darwin acreage is situated 130km northeast of the Shetland Islands, next to TAQA-operated Cormorant South, North Cormorant and Pelican fields in the Northern North Sea.
TAQA UK oil and gas business managing director Leo Koot said, "This discovery proves that the North Sea still has great potential and that it is possible to unlock opportunity and produce growth through the use of cutting-edge technology and focused investment."
The company has acquired 50% interest in the Darwin acreage in February 2012. TAQA with 50% is re-evaluating the reserve potentials of the Darwin oil discoveries along with the re-development of the NW Hutton field.
The firm has begun its first oil production from the Cormorant East field development in the UK North Sea which is estimated to have 10m to 30m barrels of oil in place.
