The Tupi BV consortium of BG, Galphabe and Petrobras Netherlands has contracted Technip to supply flexible piping for the Iracema North pre-salt field in the Santos basin, offshore Brazil.

The contract requires Technip to supply 114km of flexible pipes, including gas lift, gas injection and gas export lines.

The engineering and project management will be undertaken at Technip’s operating centre in Rio de Janeiro, while the pipes will be manufactured at the company’s sites in Açu and Vitoria.

Petrobras Netherlands has requested a service life of about 30 years for sour gas service application, in water depths up to 2,500m, and for the ability to withstand high-pressure gas injection in the reservoir.

Delivery is expected to commence in the first half of 2015.

Technip president in Brazil Adriano Novitsky said: "This award confirms the flexible pipe as a reliable and optimised solution for the pre-salt challenging applications and Technip’s technological leadership in this business. It follows the flexible pipe supply contract awarded last year for the Iracema Sul field."

The Iracema North oilfield is located about 300km south of Rio de Janeiro and lies about 5,000m below the sea floor, under a pre-salt layer. Earlier this year, Japanese engineering and electronics company Hitachi delivered six sets of centrifugal compressors for the floating production, storage and offloading system (FPSO) for the Iracema North field.

With the capacity to process 150,000 barrels per day after conversion, the FPSO will store approximately 1.6 million barrels.
