MSCDN1 system

The MSCDN1technology is expected to enhance efficiency and voltage stability at the Karben electrical substation on the Frankfurt am Main network.

Specifically, the technology will provide TenneT access to a constant and high-quality supply of switchable reactive power, whose optimized use minimises electrical losses while reducing both costs and carbon emissions.

Alstom Grid Berlin Power Electronics Activities team leader Jan-Hendrik von Auer said Alstom expanded its long-term partnership with the company in 2006 to include MSCDNs.

"With today’s order, TenneT once again reaffirms its trust in Alstom’s expertise and outstanding service," Auer added.

In addition, the flexible MSCDN system can support voltage levels when capacity is high, and simply be turned off when capacity is low.

The order, which represents TenneT’s sixth installation of Alstom MSCDN system, is scheduled to complete in 2015.
